What a journey – Harman’s then to now

Who’d have thought we’d go from a bacon butty van to servicing major contracts for the likes of The Swift Group, Bassett’s Liquorice Allsorts-makers Tangerine Confectionery, and major government infrastructure projects like the A1 and A14 road infrastructure projects?

Yet that is exactly the route Harman’s has followed since our humble beginnings, 20 years ago, as Hungry Henry’s.
The Harman’s team was honoured to be chosen via a competitive tender process as a supply chain partner on the Highways England A14 Cambridge to Huntingdon improvement scheme, which began in late 2016.

The £1.5 billion project is being delivered by the A14 Integrated Delivery Team (IDT), a joint venture between Costain, Skanska, Balfour Beatty and Atkins/CH2M.

Project delivery upon completion will include a major new bypass to the south of Huntingdon, widened sections of the existing A14 between Swavesey and Girton and part of the A14 Cambridge northern bypass, as well as a section of the A1 between Brampton and Alconbury. The A14 viaduct at Huntingdon will be demolished in the final stages. The works are due to be completed by December 2020.
Making sweet memories

Sherbet Fountain, Black Jack, Fruit Salad, Refreshers, Dip Dabs… these will be familiar names to people of all ages and for those of a certain generation will no doubt conjure up fond memories of childhood and trips to the sweet shop clutching precious pennies.

Well, these popular sweets are still going strong with a major presence on retailers’ (and corner shop) shelves across the globe. Harman’s are proud to say we’ve been working with British-based company Tangerine Confectionery, owner of these famous names and a broad portfolio of other sweet treats, since 2015, when we won a tender to manage on-site catering at four of Tangerine’s factories.
A large proportion of our customers have been with us for years, and have evolved their operations with our help, something we are extremely proud of as testament to our supportive and collaborative approach.

One such is Swift Group, based at Cottingham on the outskirts of Hull.

Our relationship with the UK’s largest leisure vehicle manufacturer began in 2002, when they called us in to review their existing catering service as they wanted a local business to take it forward.
